Topic: Integrating Secure Elements with Account Abstraction for Autonomous IoT Blockchain Agents.

Speaker: Yash Madhwal, Research Scientist, Skoltech

Abstract: How can an IoT device send data to a public blockchain while keeping its private key safe and letting someone else pay the transaction fees? We will explore how security chips called Secure Elements can work with ERC-4337 account abstraction. The chip protects the device’s signing key, a smart account checks its requests, and a paymaster pays the fees. We follow one sensor reading step by step to explain how the system works, including the roles of UserOperations, bundlers, EntryPoint, and paymasters. We also look at the prototype and compare gas costs for different ways of submitting data. For small records, checking signatures and processing requests adds a noticeable cost. For larger records, the amount of data becomes the main cost. These results help explain why short readings and hashes can be kept on the blockchain, while larger files can be stored elsewhere. We also discuss an important limit: protecting a device’s key does not prove that its sensor readings are correct.
